Kapil Seshasayee is an Art Rock / Indian Classical / R&B musician and visual artist from Glasgow, Scotland. His debut LP - “A Sacred Bore” is a concept album about the oppression of the Indian caste system both in India and its diaspora. A high profile collaboration between Kapil and Rap legend LIL B against caste was profiled by The Guardian and Rolling Stone India in 2021.
The first in a trilogy of Desifuturist works, the album has featured in Pitchfork, VICE, Rolling Stone India, The Guardian, The New Indian Express, The Quietus, BBC Asian Network, BBC Radio Scotland and has been inducted into the Sound & Moving Image exhibit of The British Library. Kapil has toured the album across the UK, Canada & Germany with performances at festivals such as SXSW, Latitude Festival and Celtic Connections.
Kapil released the first single from follow up album “Laal” in October 2019 - a concept album about the influence of the Bollywood film industry centred around themes of censorship, nationalism and caste which is set for release in early 2022. Singles released from the LP have featured at Rolling Stone India, Bandcamp, The Quietus, The Hindu, BBC Radio6 Music, BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Asian Network.
Kapil has showcased songs from the new album with his live band across SXSW, Wide Days, Canadian Music Week, UEFA EURO 2020, ILMC, Unconvention Manchester, WOMEX and innovative South Asian festival Dialled in. His online performance at Wide Days 2020 caught the attention of internationally renown live agent Steve Zapp who would sign him to his roster with the prestigious International Talent Booking Agency.
Kapil has amassed a number of high profile collaborations and commissions including a rework of a Ravi Shankar composition to commemorate his 100th birthday for BBC Asian Network, an interpretation of songs by Ivor Cutler for a performance in Glasgow Royal Concert Hall alongside members of Mogwai and Belle & Sebastian and recently a new project alongside Astrid frontman Willie Campbell for climate change conference COP26.
